Communism collapse in eastern Europe and the USSR because of the economy, couldn't keep up with the United States, many people turned against communism, and statues of Lenin and other communists leaders were torn down. Before people tried to escape the Berlin Wall no one couldn't cross the wall and whoever did would get killed. The wall separated East and West of Germany.
